GOD's VESSEL

To be full of things is to be empty of GOD. To be empty of things is to be full of GOD.
(Meister Eckhart)

The insight of the medieval monk Meister Eckhart many spiritual travelers would consider as a command to abolish stuff, titles and luxury. Yet, how about having a simple mind as well? What if peace of mind is simply the absence of thoughts? This concept is of course embraced during meditation session, but as a general life mission, this mandate would interfere with the quest of many a spiritual philosopher: the desire for knowledge and wisdom.

Says the Indian guru Sri Poonja, "Always keep your pockets empty. With empty hands, everything will come. If you are already holding something, you have no capacity to receive something more. Empty your hand, always keep it empty. It is the empty mind that is the emperor of this universe. Empty mind and empty hand mean having no thought, and a man with no thought is the king of the kingdom. You can try. Empty your mind of everything and feel who you are. This is called peace, also enlightenment, also freedom."

Do you realize the TRUTH of this statement? The answer of spirituality is not to fight thoughts from popping up, that's impossible anyway. The answer of spirituality is to be the receiver of the WAY. Anything else is a waste of our precious VESSEL.
