If you're going through hell, keep going. (Winston Churchill)
I was taking the stairs to a meeting and after three or four flights realized that I was increasingly getting out of breath. A colleague who I respect a lot was catching up with me with his long strides. "You are in great shape John!", I said to him. He smiled and replied, "Just keep going!" He stopped at his floor while I still had a couple more flights ahead of me so I had little choice but to follow his advice. "Just keep going", I mumbled to myself.
I have no idea whether this particular colleague knew when we met that day how hard I was working beneath the surface to make a career for myself, but either way, I know him well enough to say that that this is exactly what he would have done had he been in my shoes. He is a "just keep going person" with tremendous drive and energy. Well, with or without his advice, this is what I had been doing for months now. I did my work to the best of my abilities, went home, ate, crashed, and then somehow did it again the next day with a smile on my face. Just as with the stairs, what choice did I have but to just keep going.
