Free of self

The journey of self-discovery ends with the discovery that there is no self.

Wu Hsin

If I had to communicate the essence of my upcoming book ‘Breaking Free’ in one sentence, the quote of Wu Hsin would probably come closest. Many are seekers of a more spiritual world, a more meaningful work environment, a loving soul partnership with a significant other, a more caring society, some inner peace. It’s not wrong to seek. Everyone who sets out to search for something will find something, the trick is only to know what exactly you are looking for. Freedom is the state of ‘no self.’ As a matter of fact, the state of ‘no self’ is always right around the corner.

When I posted Wu Hsin’s insight that the end of self-discovery is ‘no self,’  my friend David Wellens responded with this insight:

We will

all make the

journey

from selfish

to self less

to SELF FULL.

Another powerful insight that explains the gist of true freedom beautifully. Most folks who set out for a quest to reach the Beyond fall victim to a mental concept. In their attempt to leave their selfish nature behind they try to live up up to a Mother Theresa image of selflessness and are then surprised when they also don’t feel any happier than before. No, the end of self-discovery is not negating our selfishness, it’s a melting of the self altogether, either in the busyness or magnificence of the mission that they have embarked on or the silence of the inner being. It is the absence of self that opens us up to the bounty of

Serenity

Empowerment

Love

Freedom—SELF in short.

We become full of SELF as David Wellens puts it so well, and this state reigns in the absence of self.
