Depressed, restless, suppressed, or just bad luck?

Ah, what a joy it is to listen to non-duality speakers. They know that the thinker is the thought and will be happy to remind you of the fact that “Awareness is” always prevails. “The mind activity and the one who suffers from it are two sides of the same coin,” Mooji says, and we are “Awareness is” before thought arises, and have the capacity to look through the mental activity and our capricious feelings. We know that they must be right since we have experienced That as well. Alas, when the identity of self takes over once again, we are tempted to watch another video or sign up for a new seminar to get a refresher.

What the non-duality speakers do not tell you is that we carry our tendencies with us, in thoughts, feelings and the events we subconsciously attract. This homework we carry around is not an interference; it’s life’s raison d’etre to pull us in and show us what still needs to be faced. Depression, restlessness, bad luck is an invite to look closer, and outright suppression is the result of by-passing in the name of spirituality. I am not critiquing non-duality; it’s one spiritual practice of many. Yet, something can be added to the non-duality lecture. The interference we face is there for a reason. The answer lies in insight, surrender and letting go.

The proof in the pudding for the “Awareness is” state is simple, do we feel contentment and abundance in all circumstances? If not, life is sure to give us another invite for insight, surrender and letting go. Bring it on!
