Take a moment to choose!

Evaluations and judgements are only part of the vast array of conscious and unconscious senses, thoughts, images, and feelings that make up one’s self-image, the basic feeling of “me”.

Gerald May, Will and Spirit

I realized that the German word of judgement—Urteil—contains the word division. Every time we pass judgement we are—by definition—entering the realm of duality for there must be someone who passes judgement on someone else. Even if you think that you are in the “right” you have still left the realm of non-duality. Confusing, isn’t it?

We may be able to make enlightened conscious decisions. As mentioned in the famous Viktor Frankl quote, “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.” Connect with that space and choice-less Awareness becomes available. We may in fact thank the non-dual decision moment for re-connecting with with Oneness.

Some of our choices are subconscious in nature. I remember a presentation at work by a psychologist where she asked to to assign the word “good” with our competitor, and we were noticeably slower in pushing the button than when we were asked to push “good” with our own firm name. Now we can be made aware of these biases and can overwrite them, but it’s work.

The Course in Miracles states, “Every moment, properly perceived, becomes an opportunity to heal.” Is seeing, feeling, sensing, knowing an instrument of Oneness or are we too busy scheming that the meaning of the moment as is cannot reach us? Choice-less Awareness speaks for itself, the resulting action is simply perceived. Yet, taking a moment to choose is beautiful too.
