If not Awareness, we can always be self-aware

 How can there be enlightenment—the end of the individual—if the state of separation was an illusion to start with.

I am you and you are me. I am witnessing consciousness and manifest you as much as you manifest me when we meet.

 

Lord Ram once said to Hanuman, “who are you monkey?” and he replied, I am you, and when I forget, I worship you.

 

Likewise, we might say, I am manifesting awareness, and when I temporarily forget, I at least I can be self-aware.
