Leaving the trip down memory lane behind

The power of now is not easy to describe. In part a satori moment when the mind is blown by the beauty of the moment, in part an act of creation where a mysterious creative force flows through us, making us part of the landscape as a witness, actor, while being integrated with it in a way that dissolves the witness and actor. The observer is the observed in this state. The observer determines the outcome in form of a particle that otherwise exists as a wave of probable outcomes, as demonstrated on the quantum level of existence.

Now what is the state of being instead. It’s the thought that pops to the surface and gets our attention, the feeling that reminds us this state that we experience is not quite as good as it gets. It’s certainly the experience generated by our memories and conditioning. We are a walking magnet and life’s function is to materialize what we still are attached to. The pull of the past and the anticipated future can be so strong that we get completely lost in it, like being triggered and for a moment, becoming just instinctive reactions. Mostly though, we are in a state of mindfulness where we are aware of both states, the weight of the past and the conditioned longings and aversions, as well as the ability to observe what is happening and reflecting on it.

Everyone is on a subconscious home-coming journey, and the degree of the prevailing power of now is a measure of spiritual advancement. Next comes the ability to be mindful even though the weight of the conditioned past still can be felt. Avoid linear thinking though. A broadly unconscious person may after a massive break-through reach a higher state of spiritual evolution that someone who has diligently practiced mindfulness and meditation for decades. We are led like a donkey with a carrot along the home-coming stretch. Enjoy the power of now and practice mindfulness as best as possible. It’s a trip down memory lane until the moment you wake up.
