The present difficulty is that man thinks he is the doer. But it is a mistake. It’s the Higher Power which does everything, and the man is only a tool. If he accepts that position, he is free from troubles; otherwise, he courts them.
(Ramana Maharshi)
Is there really a conscious spiritual journey? Isn’t it more that the self-motivated actions decrease as we open up to a universal energy force that powers our existence? We might say the moments of self-reflections are our spiritual work, that is, the awareness that our thoughts, feelings and actions are self motivated, though we long to be part of the universal energy stream. Yet, how effective is it really? Who is the one who evaluates what is going on within and without?
Choice-less awareness is just another word for the feat of being powered by a universal energy. Fact of the matter is, we always are, even though we might consider that the thoughts, feelings and actions are our own doing. Let’s just remind ourselves that we are not the doer and let the guiding energy speak for itself. When a personal agenda appears, let’s take a deep breath and connect with the prevailing energy again. In stillness the choice presents itself. Awareness calls the shots.
