There was once a drop of water that became (partially) conscious of itself. It realized where it came from at the top of the mountain and saw that it was bound to merge the mighty ocean. In fact, when it was part of the river stream, it already felt one with the ocean. But then, now and then it got caught in a whirlpool, and felt temporarily disconnected from the stream. The only difference from before was that now it was conscious that something was amiss.
What to do when we get caught in these whirlpools, and the personal energy takes over? After Awakening we at least have a better shot at being mindful of the self-inflicted interference that causes the cycling. Actually, inquiring into the interference and asking who suffers because of it is an interesting exercise in itself. Maybe we can cut the cycling short, maybe we need a little extra time to live through our tantrums in order to let go. Either way, when “being, consciousness, bliss” reigns, all past ceases.
