Conditioned mind is craving

I was pulling into the driveway on a beautiful September Sunday morning in New England and got mesmerized by the beauty of the scene, bushes and trees swaying in the wind with a brilliant sun streaming down. I asked myself, what could possibly be missing this moment and found absolutely nothing!

When conditioned mind returns, we do want something, a perfect partner, a beautiful house or a car; perhaps we want to find God. Consciously or subconsciously, conditioned mind wants to go from here to there. Try to become aware of the drive that’s implanted in conditioned mind.

There is an amazing revelation for anyone who has been experiencing both states, getting what you want does not give you contentment. It might be temporary, just like drinking champagne on a holiday with a person we love, but it will be followed by new cravings—conditioned mind is craving.

How do I know this fact? Well, go back to this satori moment you once experienced, suppose someone would have given you the keys to a new car, or anything else for that matter, you would have cared less. There was no “you” at this blissful moment. Conditioned mind was missing in action.

Now the 64 000-dollar question is how to get from conditioned mind to serenity, love and contentment? I wouldn’t know, but in the meantime let’s be mindful of all the conscious goals that we feel give us happiness, as well as becoming aware of the hidden agenda we carry with us.
