On Sharing Spiritual Wisdom along the Way

Wisdom cannot be imparted. Wisdom that a wise man attempts to impart always sounds like foolishness to someone else ... Knowledge can be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it.”
― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

In the Spiritual Networks community I am part of there is one woman in particular who spends half her time telling everyone that she is love impersonated and the happiest person alive, and half of the time describing how she has to tell others that they haven't discovered the light and how she has the duty to lecture them, and how upset they get with her.

I can resonate with her because I used to do the same when I was a bit younger. Yet spirituality isn't that way at all. The Way will tell you what you need to know when you are ready. There never is any violence or tension along the Way. I now wait patiently for my opportunity to say something, and if this opportunity never comes along, so be it.

Something else has changed in me. Now I perceive no urgency whatsoever to share what I feel works for my friend. When I say what I feel I have to say I of course hope that my friend will see it that way too, but if he for some reason gets mad with me then so be it too. I somehow feel indifferent about the whole thing. I am just Her instrument; the Way always knows what works best for everyone.

As Below, So Above

You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.
(Rumi)

They say, as above, so below. Do you know what this implies? Can you imagine that our entire destiny is written in the stars? You must have noticed yourself that there are periods when walking is as hard as if concrete is tied to your feet. While on others, pretty much no matter what you do, everything falls into your lap easily. All these up and down phases are written in the stars, and a skilled astrologer can tell you about it in your charts.

Who knows whether we have a choice in what we do or not. Who knows what exactly in our lives is predetermined and what is not. But if the 'as above, so below' statement is correct then it is hard to imagine that our willpower can change the trajectory of stars. Yet, within a written life-story there is probably a high degree of freedom what you can do with it.

The upside of 'as above, so below' is information. If we are operating in a hologram, all the information above must be at our disposal below. So all we ever need to know slumbers deep inside of us. Just as Rumi says, we are the entire ocean in a drop.

On Knowing

Whenever someone can listen fairly to both sides of an issue, he will make the right decision. This is because he has the right answer.
(A Course in Miracles)

In a famous experiment, researchers in Iowa tested people with two decks of cards, with one of them having better odds of winning. It turned out that the people eventually figured out which deck of cards they should choose, but this realization only came after they had drawn 50 cards. Yet, subconsciously, they had already figured it out 10 cards into the game. Isn't that result amazing? This is of course the good old intuition at work and people who are in tune with their feelings may have the ability to beat their conscious mind. Yet, perhaps there is even more to knowing, something that our scientific community hasn't yet figured out. Could it be that we can know the preferred stack without pulling any card just because we have access to the all-knowing Mind? I have a hunch that we can, yet, as the Course in Miracles reminds us, if we have a vested interest in getting the information, we are perhaps too biased to tab into the Source.

The Thirst for Knowledge

Knowledge is not a motivation for learning this course. Peace is. As a prerequisite for knowledge, peace must be learned.

A Course in Miracles

A fellow-traveler in my favorite spirituality discussion group at the 'Personal Development Forum for Smart People', described how he was addicted to video games as a child, gobbled up knowledge at a ferocious speed when he was a student and in his 30s, has been on a spiritual quest with similar intensity. My question was, could it be that all of these phases were driven by the same force inside, and while pursuing spirituality appears like a worthwhile enterprise, perhaps he was still just running away from some emptiness inside? May peace be with you, and in that moment of stillness, knowledge will be present as well.
